Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to see results with obedience training?

While behavioural changes require a commitment to consistent training, clear communication and lifestyle modifications for at least a couple of months, you will visibly see progress from one session to the next.

Basic commands like loose leash walking, sit and drop can be taught very quickly. However, teaching your dog to lie down and hold command independently (without your supervision and guidance) especially in the presence of triggers, such as cats or squirrels, or people or vehicles arriving at your doorstep, etc take longer.

  • Do You Need to be Involved in the Training?

    Yes!

Whether you opt for Group training, At-home Private training or even the Residential training program, your involvement in your dog's training is crucial in long term success.

There are 3 pillars to dog training:

    1. Training the dog

    2. Training the family members

    3. Managing the dog's environment (because you can't have eyes on them 24x7).

I can train your  dog to perfection, but if you do not know how to reinforce the training (or choose not to), he/she will not behave with you the way they behave with me.

It's all about establishing clear communication and expectations in your relationship, which dogs learn from their daily interaction with you.

  • What Training Style Do I Practice?

I take a holistic approach to training, which means instead of only addressing the symptoms your dog is expressing, I first look to find underlying causes for the problem.

Problem behaviours that clients often bring to a trainer's attention, such as constant barking, lunging and pouncing on other dogs, digging up the garden or chewing on shoes and furniture are usually symptoms.

For instance, if your dog is digging or chewing inappropriately, we would first need to see whether they are getting breed appropriate stimulation and exercise. If your labrador is only getting 10 minutes of exercise, then we will address his exercise needs before addressing the digging and chewing as it's likely happening due to boredom and excess energy in the body.
